Book Review#3: The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau
So I sped through this book. But not because I liked it. Ok, let me rephrase that. I did like this book, but that is not the rest I sped through it.
This book had a very interesting concept, it was full of suspense and thrill and horror. The characters were pretty good. But what really got to me, and I could not shake it off, was that this book seemed a lot like Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Culling by Steven Dos Santos. Not that it's bad to be compared by those books, because they're both great books. To me, the book just felt predictable and a bit of a deja vu moment. Which made me kind of what to skim through a few parts because I felt as though I had read them before.
But, I am still anxious to see how this series progresses and if that feeling for me changes. As far as Dystopia books go, this book was still a very good read and a very good plot. I loved the idea of these individuals going through an insane college application. (Can you imagine? Instead of an application letter to Yale, you had to go through a series of possibly deadly test to see if you qualify? -shivers-
Over all, I give this book a solid 4. Docking off a star for the deja vu moments and the predictably. But I will also be continuing with this series and seeing where it leads to. <3
